When we were visiting a site of our rice studies in a remote barangay of Bunawan, Agusan del Sur, I was mesmerized by the scene that I immediately got my camera from my bag and took the miserable scene – a dog by the window. It was not a common scene where a dog rested its jaw on a window jam as if he felt an anguish of being left alone or hoping someone will be coming back to lighten up its life, maybe because it is still hoping to a promise to be together after a short separation. If you look at the eyes of the dog, it was as if there was pain, a melancholic longing. I cannot say that it was just tired so it rested there. It was something that I cannot decipher what it is, so I made some explanations. Explanations for me that I hope will be acceptable to the scene I just have seen.
I find it funny but there is a part of me that tells, hey, you just don’t know what it is going through. An animal psychologist may think that it is indeed, waiting to its loved one. If the dog can show that kind of devotion or longing, what more a human being who is motivated by emotions and feelings. It is just kind of presumption that can be possible. Maybe if I came nearer, I might heard it’s whimpering growl.
